Performance Analysis of Small Cap Equity Mutual Funds: Time Series Analysis

Abstract

Mutual Fund serves as an investment instrument for investors. Mutual Fund is professionally
managed fund which pools savings from investors having same fi nancial goal. Money thus
collected invested in capital market instruments like Shares, Debentures, Bonds and other
Securities and returns generated through these investments is shared by its unit holders in
proportion of units held by them. Mutual fund started in India in 1963 with the formation
of Unit Trust of India. The main aim of this paper is to achieve performance analysis of
small cap funds of fi ve mutual fund companies for a period of fi ve years from (1-Aprl-2014
to 31-Mar-2019) and subsidiary aim is to fi nd the relationship between risk and return on
the basis of Standard Deviation, Beta, Sharpe ratio and Treynor ratio. The data has been
taken from various mutual fund websites, nseinida.com and amfi ndia.com. The analysis
describes that preponderance of funds taken for study have outperformed under Sharpe
ratio and Treynor ratio.
